Michigan native, Dr. (Heather Rae – first name 🙂 McAlvey was raised in Holt and lives in Lansing with her husband, Thom, and two daughters Pollyanna (4 years old) and Poppy (2 years old). Dr. McAlvey received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University (2009) in Spanish and Women, Gender, Social Justice. Following graduation, she farmed alongside her husband and served as an Americorps for several years at the Allen Neighborhood Center and the Lansing Latino Health Alliance. She then worked as a Community Health Worker Manager with the Ingham Health Plan and a bilingual case manager at the Ingham County Health Department where she recognized the need for dental care in her community. Dr. McAlvey received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, graduating just as the pandemic hit. Since then she has been combining her love for artistry, teeth and the people connected to them.
When not practicing dentistry, Dr. McAlvey enjoys sharing her love for county fairs, french fries drenched in malt vinegar and thrift shopping with her family. She loves the hunt of a good bargain and finding sweet vintage clothing. She likes walleye fishing with her father, staying in waterpark hotels with her girls and reading menus/ordering takeout online, mostly Thai and Korean. In her spare time she desperately tries to clean the house while listening to early 2000’s music, but she mostly just chases after her children. When she is not going to bed at 8:00p.m. she watches reruns on Netflix (The Office, How I Met Your Mother, etc) or writes in her journal. Her patients appreciate her calm demeanor, listening ear and anxiety reducing techniques. She can’t wait to meet you and your pearly whites.
